Prayer and Praise

Prayer Request - June 2005

Prayer: Please pray for Kelly "Haley" Santana who is the 17 year old daughter of one of Cuidado Infantil Dominicano's health workers. Two years ago she was diagnosed with cancer in her clavicle bone. She had surgery one and one half years ago. And now the cancer is back and has spread. The growth pushes on her esophagus, making it hard for her to eat and breath. The family is very poor. They sold personal belongings to pay for the doctor's visit and diagnosis. Kelly needs three rounds of chemo-therapy treatment which is very expensive. The government does not pay for this kind of special treatment. As an institution CID does not have the funds to help the family, though individual staff members are doing what they can.

CID first met Kelly and her mother Ramona, when Kelly's younger sister entered the community based rehabilitation program because of her severe brain damage resulting from fever and convulsions. Later, Ramona was chosen by her community to be the community health worker for her area of Cien Fuegos, a poor barrio in Santiago.

Please pray that Kelly recovers from her cancer. Please pray that the family finds resources it needs for Kelly's treatment.
