Prayer Request - October 2004

Greetings from the Dominican Republic,

To date, Kenia's birth defect is undiagnosed and seems to be worsening. Her eyesight is particularly threatened. Please pray for Kenia's health.

Even though Kenia and Kelvin's father works full time in a jeans factory, travel costs are prohibitive and there is no health insurance to cover the costs of sophisticated medical care. Please pray that their family will be able to find the means to take Kenia to Santo Domingo for further testing and advanced treatment.

Kenia and Kelvin's mother, Daysi, suffers from depression. Altagracia, the ICC health promoter, believes Daysi's depression stems in part from the extended family's rejection of her children as disabilities are often viewed as an embarrassment in Dominican culture. Instead of offering support, they often refer to Kelvin and Kenia as stupid or crazy. Please pray that Daysi will receive the medical help she needs for depression and support from her extended family as she cares for her children.

Please remember ICC's dedicated Community Based Rehabilitation supervisors, coordinators and promoters in your prayers. s accepted and taken care of. Please pray we will find the best place for him to live. The psychologist agrees with finding him another home being the only chance for him to be able to improve.
